about

My Story

My love for film and storytelling began very early when I was lucky enough to be selected for a unique summer film program at UT Austin while in middle school. My passion for filmmaking only grew from there. I later went on to study art and design at UT as an adult, which sparked a long, creative career. My filmmaking career was also pushed forward by the advances in technology that made it possible for more affordable cameras and editing software, hence making filmmaking available to the masses.

I first discovered the 48 Hour Film Project over 12 years ago in Austin and thought it would be a great way to exercise my filmmaking. It's been a fun journey of discovery and practice in the craft of short filmmaking. I have learned a lot from all the films and have had the opportunity to work with some very creative people,

Today, I am a Creative Producer/Designer with IBM Design, helping to create stories of outcomes at IBM Design Thinking. I am also an independent filmmaker, having written, directed, shot, and produced dozens of short films, documentaries, music videos, and teamed on an award-winning web series. I am well versed in filmmaking and podcast production, and experienced in working with actors, budgets, and intense timelines, etc. Recently I'm enjoying learning everything I can about YouTube and how to share what I've learned on my channels http://youtube.com/voxavila and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAOfld-d8tju7Jt6zxvFzNA
